Bad Music Store Experience Today (with Phil & Eddie)

I do know one thing. All the SUCCESSFUL music stores
around here make people feel comfortable in their stores.
I refuse to buy one thing from a store like the one I visited.
I was going to buy some strings and some picks that day.
If the guy had been nice I probably would have considered buying
a guitar there soon. He can give that up.

He seemed to be saying that the store was there for him to do as he pleases. I disagree with that concept. Apparently you see it his way.

I totally agree. If you don't like the service you get in a store. Don't buy there.

If I had a bad experience I don't think I would run home and publish the name, address, and website of the store in question. I'd maybe try and go in on another day and see if I had just caught them on a bad day or something. But, that's just me. We are all entitled to do what we want.

It's called word of mouth. Bad service=bad reputation.
Notice the three stores that I praised?
They don't let you come in and damage their stuff. But they
do make you feel at home and encourage you to play. When I go to a music store I make sure I take my coat off if it has a zipper or anything that would scratch and treat their stuff like it is mine.

Having been in the retail music business, I can see both sides of this incident as I've been there, done that myself.

You have to ask yourself: Would you buy a new car that everyone and his brother have test driven to where the odometer reads 12345.6 miles, and pay the sticker price ? ? ? Of course NOT, unless you're an IDIOT ! ! !

Having rubbed scratches out of the pick guards of hundreds of guitars; I myself, have had to wrap up a few test drives that I saw were going nowhere from a sales standpoint. Keep in mind that this was long before new guitars came with plastic film on pick guards.

Back in the 70's I used to do set-up and repairs for Jody Reynolds, who had a guitar shop here in Palm Springs. He didn't mix words; when asked if someone could try a guitar, he point blank asked: "Are you interested in buying, or just trying?" And if it was a high-end guitar, he'd ask: "Are you adequately funded to make a purchase TODAY?" At that point they did one of two things; pull out a wad o' cash or walked out.

Don't lose sight that guitars are a product for sale, until you buy and own them, then they're a musical instrument -YOUR musical instrument.

Although your feelings might have been hurt by the proprietor of this guitar shop, it's not like your wife had admitted that she's faked every orgasm over the past 30-years . . .
