HeyMerle, Highly unlikely that GuitarGallery would do that....the guy running the joint is a real space cadet. By the way...it'd be nice to know your real name. Anybody else agree with me here?

Phil, it's possible that there is a concern about safety. A lot can be done to "zero in" on a person who gives his name.

By the way, I've seen many times where "impulse buying" occurred after trying things out, when there was no intention to purchase upon arrival. I've been one of those. As far as "strutting my stuff", unfortunately these days there seems to be nobody to strut it to! I miss the days when more people appreciated it, and I'm better now than I ever was! I realize that if I were to "dumb myself down" that I might get quite a following but then I'd have to live with myself and be able to sleep at night......lol.

It was a joke for crying out loud.

And there are 30+ pages of people on this site....many of which don't use their "real" name. Big deal.

I don't know you .....don't post under any other names......and you don't know me.

Lighten up already.

Heymerle,
The only thing I am really curious about is how you never posted here until a few days ago
and then here you are.
How did you find the Chetboard?
It was nice when you could see IP addresses.

I get yet another PM from the other guy asking me to "put his mind at ease" by telling him who I am. The previous PM from the other guy attacked my lack of "integrity" for not posting my real identity.

I am not sure why these guys feel it is necessary to send me PM's.....apprarently they don't want the rest of the board to see these messages.

I have been looking at this board for years. When you did not have to sign up to post I would post once in a while.

They way you guys bashed the store struck a chord (!) with me. I gave a different perspective about it.... you two have had your undies in a twist ever since. I agreed to let it go.....but you persist.

Not sure why you care so much. If you disagree with my opinion.....then ignore it and move on.

No I don't really care if someone calls themselves pink polka dotted elephant #2 on here.
As long as they don't start bashing someone for posting an opinion under said name.

When I grew up if you decided to deal with another person and you had an issue with them
you did it in private. If you had sent me a PM laying out your concern with me I would have been
happy to discuss it with you.

I searched for your name on the archive of the old board and nothing showed.

No hard feelings.

Now onto something worthwhile. Thanks for your time.

Well, this is not H. Merle, but I do have a little good news to report, at least for me. Thanks to two esteemed members of this august body of pickers (you guys) and wannabe (me), I have located a used NC at an unbelievably low price. And, I might add, this guitar comes from such a hot picker, I will just have to hold it and finger sync all of Chet's tunes. I really appreciate all the advice and assistance you folks gave me. Now I can go about trying to catch up with Eddie, Bruce, Bill, John, Muriel (especially Muriel), etc. Ah, asi es la vida y las mujeres tambien. Thanks again.

HeyMerle wrote:A different perspective.

I owned a guitar store for about 10 years. We are only hearing one side of the story here. Lets be honest.....you had no intention of purchasing one of the guitars. You guys decided to stop in and strut your stuff a little.

You got to "rattle off" two or three tunes. But evidently that was not enough.

Perhaps its just a "$400 classical" to you and no big deal. But to the owner of that shop that guitar is HIS until someone else buys it. The more people that play on it......the more things that CAN happen. Maybe not this time or the next...but at some point its starts to get smudged/scratched up and banged around.

2 or 3 songs would seem sufficient to get a feel for the guitar. But that was not really what you had in mind.

A lot of people come into a guitar shop, to put it bluntly, show off. They have no intention of buying anything and are there just to entertain themselves and (if they are lucky) get a built in audience. I can't tell you how frustrating this becomes when people with a sense of "entitlement" come into a store.....and get huffy if you have the audacity to point out that this is a store (after all) and if they have any intention of purchasing the $400 item or if they just want to use it awhile. Especially in a small store. It may be just a "$400" classical to you (a bit smug eh?) but to the owner it represents part of his inventory and every piece of inventory is important to a small shop owner.

Now, I learned early on that you have to take control of the store. If you don't people will use the store as their private little den to entertain themselves and their friends. I would come around the corner sometimes and find two guys with their girlfriends sitting on the floor (making themselves at home) settling in a for a nice sit down and play.

If you want to play for yourself or your friends go home and use your own guitars. A small guitar store is NOT a library where the guitars are there for you to use as you please.....along with take up space in the store to show the world how great you are.

Go easy on the small store owners fellas and try to see things from their perspective. They may be having a bad day.....or maybe you should be home playing in your den.

You don't seem to have the right personality to run a guitar shop. People come in, try guitars, often without any intention of purchasing one, and usually walk out without spending a dollar. The shop owner has to be confortable with that fact, it's part of the game. The idea is that one one of those visits they''ll try something they really like and make a purchase. I'ts not like selling a washing machine, where people coming into the strore normally NEED a new washing machine. For most folks, guitar playing is a hobby, a diversion from the work world. They stop in, try a guitar or 2, hang out and leave. You seem to view any one who entered the store without the intent to make a purchase, on that day, as a freeloader.

To run a gutar shop, you gotta like guitars , and guitar players and even thier girlfreinds sitting on the damn floor. You made the right choice by selling.

Well, you are ignoring the content of my post, which was that some people will abuse the situation....and become pests in the store...it happens. But we can pretend that it doesn't it you like.

No Jerry. Not inccesded! but it was not a huge store and the floor of a guitar shop is not the place to hold a hootenanny with your girlfriends. Thats what living rooms are for. Or, even better yet....here is wild idea.....if you want to play in public....why don't you get yourself a gig! Crazy talk!

I have news for you. No..it kinda is not. Just to make it clear....the inventory of a small store owner is not your property and it does not exist for you to show off or do anything you want with. I think most store owners attitude is, welcome.....try a guitar for a few minutes...and if you like it purchase it...if not please be delicate and put it back. Don't overdo it. Is that unreasonable to you?

I like guitars, and guitar players, and their girlfriends (if they are cute). You are right....it was time to sell. 10 years of retail was enough for me. Store did well and it was time to move on. No regrets!
