Why not get an ebay guitar and just have them ship it to you? From what I've read over the years the Terada guitars are as good as a production guitar can get.

Terada is the Japanese factory that makes the new Gretsch guitars. They are highly consistent from the guitars that I have played. Top quality. These new Gretsch guitars are great in my opinion. The Terada factory also made the Epiphone Elitist models. This is a little embarasing, but I've owned 3 different G6122-1959 Nashville Classics (now called the Chet Atkins Country Gentleman G6122-1959). They all felt exactly the same, of course you have to set them up the way you like. Out of the 3 I did have one that had a fret that was a little high that I took in to have it dressed down. I also had a Chet Atkins G620-CGP. All great top quality guitars made in Terada Japan. I've since sold them and now I have a Gretsch Chet Atkins Hall of Fame Country Gentleman G6122-1959 on order. These new Gretsch guitars are the best in my opinion!

I don't know how close Arlington TX is to you, but here is one at a guitar center there for $1899. If you Google that store, they have a photo of the guitar on their site. I don't know if the price is negotiable at all, but I'd sure try. I wouldn't mind one of these myself. I'm sure if you bought it over the phone, they'd let you return it if you weren't satisfied. Most places, including some on EBAY will allow you to do that.

Chuck, thanks for the info about Terada. As for the 5 guitars you have or will have owned, all I can say is you are sure one lucky guy to be able to have had so many of these, especially the HOF. I would have been divorced on the seccond purchase.

Arlington is about a 6 hour trip so that it very drivable. I will check out the website and call about it tomorrow. Thanks a lot for finding this and letting me know. Hopefully I can work out a deal, and if so, I will not badmouth GC again.

Why drive 12 hours? Guitar Center has a 30 day return policy on their used equipment (72 hours on their Vintage) and their shipping is very reasonable...like 25 bucks or less. 25 bucks in gas will not get you to Arlington, I would bet.
Call them on the phone. Ask all the right questions, then low ball them. If the guitar sounds like a good one, you can always take it to your local GC and return it for your money back if it isnt what you wanted...just have them explain it to you and make sure they write it on the receipt, although I think it is a company policy.

I have bought several guitars and an amp in that fashion and not been disappointed in their description and what arrived. ... oh and I still think GC is a zoo to go into.

+1. If you email around some of the authorized dealers will let these go for much less than the minimum advertised price. Many of these dealers also have excellent return policies where you probably will only have to eat shipping costs and with the price for gas these days that may not be too much worse than driving around on your own.
I've personally got one on order right now from Shanghi Music. The waiting is extremely difficult. But Joel is a really nice guy to deal with.

Back on topic: I've had had my fair share of poor customer service from music stores. Some pretty similar to Phil and Eddies. I don't visit those establishments anymore and I don't blame you guys for any of that.

Also I guess I need to address the real name situation. In 6 days I will complete my Masters of Library Science, its been a lot of work and a good share of money. Potential employers these days will often Google applicant's names. Yes a Chet Atkins board isn't a bad thing, but you never know how someone could miss read anything.
