Re: (Andy Mckee) For My Father "cover" - feedback please?
Thanks for that URL, Jack. One thing I didn't mention was that Emmett told me that it usually takes at least 10 months or so for a guitarist or pianist to feel comfortable enough with the Stick to play it with any degree of proficiency. In other words, no concert performances for a while! And for a person with no expertise or experience with guitar or piano, even longer. I play in a lot of churches and I'd love to be the first "stick performer" for a church. You're right about the need for electricity. I doubt that any "acoustic sticks" will be manufactured very soon!

Jack Baker wrote:Hi Chris,
I'm still a bit puzzled that although you play in a style originated by a well known guitarist who brought an entirely new way of playing the guitar whether acoustic or electric, which eventually led to the Chapman stick, that you've never heard of Stanley Jordan at all. Not trying to criticize but it's as if people are playing alternating bass fingerstyle guitar like Merle and Chet who basically introduced this style to the public, and then not knowing who Chet or Merle were at all.
Not to be fussy, but it just sounds rather odd to me. I teach composition at a University in NYC and Classical music majors must know who Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms etc. etc. are...
Could it be that young people of the present time do not care about the history of what they are playing or could it be that your teacher, if you had one, didn't inform you about the origins of your style etc....be well Chris as you do play very well...Jack Baker
I think I have heard of the name, Stanley Jordan (but I have never checked him out on youtube) I know some history, but I don't know everything from the old musicians. My music is mostly inspirated by some of the new "fingerstyle" composers like: Craig D'Andrea, Trace Bundy, Sungha Jung, Andy Mckee, Erik Mongrain, Don Ross, Antoine Dufour, Tommy Emmanuel, Preston Reed etc...

Jack Baker wrote:Hello again Chris,
Now I see where you get your sound and style from. I call it "New Acoustic Guitar" music. It's more Soft Rock and Pop based original music to my ear. I think of Stanley Jordan as more of a Jazz player and he is incredible. Thanks for understanding what I was asking though...be well, Jack Baker p.s. you play really well Chris...
Yeah, you're right!
Be well you too! And thanks!
