(Andy Mckee) For My Father "cover" - feedback please?

Postby chrisbrandsborg » Tue Oct 18, 2011 10:20 am

Hi everyone! I recently uploaded a new Andy Mckee cover, a song called "For My Father". The song is very beautiful, and calm, and it's played in ECDGAD tuning.

Please write a comment or something, give me some feedback

Very nice playing. What category would you put your music in? Your sound takes me back to the "Pentangle" days with Bert Jansch or Davey Graham. Bert just passed away in Oct. of this year. He was only 67...Keep up the great playing Chris...be well...Jack Baker NYC

I would put my music in the "fingerstyle" category -> Acoustic Guitar Ballads! 67 years, that's too early :(
Thank you, Jack!

Yes, I know it's in the Fingerstyle category but would you call your music "new acoustic". Thank you for your reply...Jack Baker

Johnny Carson used to have Stanley Jordan on the "Tonight Show" once in a while and I always tried to catch it. Stanley also tuned in intervals of 4ths. Many hours have been wasted by people trying to learn this technique with their guitars in standard tuning. I tried it (correctly) for a while and finally came to the conclusion that it was like trying to learn a new instrument and would require another block of allotted time in my already busy schedule. I have a friend here in Michigan who has dedicated one of his guitars totally to Stanley Jordan's style and performs in area wide clubs. He even put out a DVD on this through Stefan Grossman's company. He still loves Chet, Jerry, and Tommy (Jones) when we get together.

Hey Jack! I knew that you would be familiar with Stanley. He has sort of disappeared on the national scene. I remember him saying once that he graduated with a degree in jazz guitar and then started playing on the streets to make a living and this brought him to the attention that took him further. I've also seen a video of him playing on stage with Chet. It's interesting to have a relationship of mutual admiration without playing each other's licks. The styles were too different but the appreciation was still there.

Jack, I wanted to ask you if you were familiar with the "Chapman Stick"? I met Emmett Chapman when I lived not far from him in California and his instruments and shop are fascinating. Stanley's tapping made me think of this. It is the only new instrument that I would try and tackle because of it's versatility and the wider frequency range that it covers. Emmett told me that It's supposed to attract pianists, guitarists, and bass players. I also used to spend time at his booth at the NAMM shows studying the "stick artists".
