Guitar stuff on TV tonight (Thursday)

The LA Times TV listings show two guitar related programs this evening. Of course these are LA-area stations so you will have to search your local listings to see if any station (PBS stations, by the way) is carrying them.

1. "Benise: the Spanish Guitar". I have no idea what this is, but suppose Benise is a guitarist.

2. "Albert King with Stevie Ray Vaughan in Session." This was produced in 1983 and should be pretty good, considering the abilities of both men. Unfortunately, it is probably a "pledge drive" airing, so you will have time to chug a few beers or devour sandwiches during the breaks. K E N T

Shoot, I missed the Benise Special (Ron Benise). He is a master guitarist with a different approach to flamenco or Spanish guitar music. He uses a straight pick in a style similar to Gypsy Jazz. An exceedingly fast and accurate player. I really enjoyed watching his talent. His show usually has two lead guitarist but features Ron. We first discovered his group playing an artisan fair in Thousand Oaks, CA several years ago and were blown away to see such pro-grade talent at that event. We really enjoyed his small combo a lot, but over the years his shows were more production numbers than we cared for. I think we last saw him at a lobby show at NAMM in Anaheim 2 years ago. There are lots of Youtube tracks of him.

I'm not a big fan of the genre played by SRV and Albert King but know many are.

Terry, are you from Thousand Oaks? I moved from there in 2005 and I have a daughter who is still there.

We're not from Thousand Oaks but the San Fernando Valley. I think we first saw them in 2005.

BTW - We're moving to the Nashville area.
