Pick it Tommy Jones

Postby Hendrik » Wed Jul 06, 2011 10:37 am

Recently I bought the LP "Pick it Tommy Jones". What a monster picker he was! I really love title song, you can really hear how Jerry influenced Tommy tremendously. The clawin' on "Foggy Mountain Breakdown" is insane, this must have effect Buster B.'s playing.

I also have the LP's "Tommy's Place" and "Back to Black Mountain", but I was wondering if there are more Tommy Jones records. I know that are the CD's "Country" and "Tide Pool". Also know there is "Chet Atkins presents Tommy Jones" but don't know on which format it's published. When searching the internet I stumbled upon the title "Guitar Collection", but don't what that is either.

If someone could help me out with this I would appreciate that. And if anybody has a copy for sale I would love to buy it!

Hi Hendrik,

Tommy and I were good friends for the last 26 years of his life. I have everything he ever recorded, all now converted to mp3's. I've also recorded a few cassette tapes of some of my times with him, as well as VHS videotapes. Maybe we could correspond through my regular email address? "cgprnd@hotmail.com". I'm glad you are such a fan of his!

By the way, I didn't really care for "Tidepool" and a few other things he recorded, but that was no fault of his playing.

Tommy was a great picker. I remember seeing him at the first few conventions. Smooth......

Yes Mark, Tommy had an extreme physical gift and made everything look easy and sound smooth.

Hello guitar maniacs :D

I have a question concerning the "pick it Tommy Jones" LP. Does Tommy also play the electric guitar on this record?
There are some amazing overdrive-runs in "Foggy Mountain Breakdown" that remind me of Steve Morse and the Dixie Dregs.

It's a pity that there is so less talking about Tommy. He's one of my Top 5 pickers for sure!

Greetings

Steve
