Eddie and his family are great friends of the Yandell family, he also is a great, very talented guitar player and has great great convictions about life and family. Personally, I've never cared about DP, his music or his endoresments, nway to self serving for me, just warmed over Chet when it all comes down to it. Chet did it first and no other will ever match what Chet did.

At this point, I also have to step up and say that regardless of where they are made; Gretsch currently builds the finest guitars (especially for our style of picking) on the planet. I am 100% for American made, American labor, etc. but I have no problem supporting a company who not only builds fine guitars and has top drawer customer support, but also a company who has brought us instruments such as the CGP (thank you Paul) that we otherwise would never have access to. Again to back up Micah, who is also a very close friend, Eddie is a fine picker by ANY standards, and to be quite honest, I have never seen any form of shameless self-promotion from him either. I would probably be more inclined to play an Eddie Estes signature Gretsch if available than a "Blue Guitar" from someone else - if for no other reason than out of pure respect for Chet, and the Yandell name.

Gretsch Custom Shop will build you a US-made guitar if you´re willing to pay handsomely. The George Harrison Duo Jet costs US$ 20.000, so I guess you have to dig deep in your pocket for that one!

I have a 1957 Duo Jet, just 12 serial numbers away from the one George Harrison owned. When the Gretch GH DuoJet came out for $20k, my original 6228 DuoJet went from a worth of $3.5k to nothing cuz it's "old". Go figure.

I've been laying low for awhile and thought I would jump in on this one. We all know what "opinions" are like, so I won't make any references to that.
I think that if a person wants to purchase a "Chibson" (chinese Gibson) or whatever, it's thats persons business and nobody elses. If a person can't afford a $3,000 Les Paul made by Gibson in the USA. He has every right to purchase a copy made in China for $300. Is it right? Maybe not. Is it legal? Who knows.
If a person can make music on whatever instrument than more power to him. Also, if Gibson wouldn't charge out the yin yang for guitars, than maybe those people wouldn't buy knock off copies in the first place.
It all comes down to that......people aren't gonna pay what guitars are selling for these days.
I'm working on an old beat up Yamaha classical that I had one of Sam's pickups installed in and I've ripped out the old preamp and battery compartment and installed an original Baldwin preamp Jack that I got from my buddy Rob in New Jersey. The guitar ain't pretty....but she sure sounds pretty. To my taste. It's all what a person likes. It has nothing to do with USA, veterans, copyrights, patents or anything of the sort. It's all what a person does and makes them personally happy with the instrument they have whether it's made in Hungary, Australia, Zimbabwai, China, or the USA....who cares.

I have no intention of commenting about what has been said so far in this thread; However, I would like to comment on the original subject of this post... "Made in USA, China".. I have a number of guitars that were made in many different countries. Some are good and some are not. My two favorite ones are Eastman Guitars. They are quality crafted guitars that happen to be made in China. I've owned my share of Gibson and Martin guitars. They were OK as well, but I wouldn't say that I bonded with them in the same way as with these 2 MIC Eastman guitars. That's just the way it is with me...

This was first aired in 1991.. yes, over 20 years ago. This is talking about Japan, but it could easily be talking about China in the current context. It was kind of interesting to watch, because most of what they discuss has happened and it doesn't leave you with a great feeling about our economic future. I live in Canada, but the US and Canada are joined at the hip as far as our economies are concerned. Yes it is a very different world than it was in 1991! Food for thought.

Oh,by the way Brians favorite gretsch is a 1959 Gretsch 6120,and Steve Wariners is a 1960 Gretsch 6120 both made,you guessed it the good ol UUUUUUUUUSA! They may endorse the gretschs made in japan for a few big bucks,but they record and play the old american models. Seems like a great thing to me!
