Postby Joe Hudson » Mon Sep 17, 2012 8:50 am

Coming up September 28-30 which means we are only two weeks away from another big weekend right here where it all began. All events are held inside the Merle Travis Music Center in Powderly, KY. (Muhlenberg County) Just to highlight some of what is going on; Friday night kicks off with great picking by Paul Moseley and friends, then on to the National Thumbpickers Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. After the ceremony, we will feature a concert by Eddie Pennington, then the Moron Brothers (Burley & Lardo , if you have not seen them, they are great!) will finish off the evening. Saturday the 29th at 9:00am is registration for the International Home of the Legends Thumbpicking Championship with cash awarded in each class, and a Gretsch Country Gentleman as the grand prize this year. The other great news is the addition of the junior category open to ages 17 and under -a Gretsch G5420 goes to the winner of this class. Saturday evening is packed - performances by : John Knowles, Pat Kirtley, Shane Adkins, Ray Cummins, The Endless Road Strings, and Ben Hall will be there along with Meagan Taylor Anderson to round out the night. Ben is bringing a full band of top musicians to back him - this will be quite a show. As always, open mic picking at Paradise Park will begin around 11:00am on the 30th. visit http://www.ntphf.com for full schedule, times, contest rules, etc. Please feel free to email me directly at joehudson01@comcast.net if you have any questions. Thank you to the Chetboard, and everyone here for helping keep this music that we all cherish alive!

Well.. It's almost time for the best thumbpickin weekend of the year and I can't go.. Humph... I had it all lined up then my backup/alternate driver backed out!! Actually he had a very good reason, but I'm still disappointed. I attended 2 years ago and I can tell you that it is one great weekend for guitar pickers. I will miss you all, but wish you all the best :) Ron
