Gibson Country Gent Neck Question

Question for those who own or have had their hands on a Gibson Country Gent. What's the neck profile like? Gibson makes fat 50s necks and slim 60s. I'm kind of wondering where it falls?

To me, its sorta in between. Of course the nut on the Gibson CG is 1 3/4" like the Gretsch NC/CG/HOF guitars.
However, the taper gets more slim on the Gibson as it approaches the 12th fret. When Paul was designing the CGP, for Gretsch, the first thing I asked was "what about neck width?" He said, "like the Gibson CG, a little narrower on up the neck"......not as wide as the other 1 3/4" Gretsches after you get past the nut.

The Gibson CG is a comfortable guitar to play, although I perfer the tone qualities of the Gretsch over the Gibson.
The Gibson neck is not "clubby" but its not super thin from front to back either. Hopefully you can play one sometime and see whether or not you like it . (or play a CGP,,,its about the same thing, neck-wise)

I have a CGP and a 59 CG. I measured both necks and they seem to be pretty similar front to back thickness wise. The Gent feels way bigger tho. Maybe it's the scale.

Love those necks. I'd probably love a Gibson Gent... If only I were rich.

I have a 59 NC and a 1990 Gibson CG. I think the necks are similar - to me the Gretsch neck may be slightly slimmer at the 1st to 5th fret. I have noticed that some of the CG's made in the Memphis plant seem to have thicker necks; however, I recently played a 2000 model and the neck was slimmer than my 1990 model. I think they will vary slightly between guitars - it would be best to try it first to see if you like it and hold out purchasing one until you find one you like.

I have 2 the one made in Nashville has a slim rounded neck. The one made in Memphis feels like a plank.

Gibson necks vary from Country Gentleman to Country Gentleman. I've had 4 or 5 of these and they have each varied from a slight difference to a major difference. The 2 times that I toured the Nashville plant I saw them shaping the necks by hand. (By the way all the CG's that I owned were made in the Nashville plant) The Gretsch CG's/NC's on the other hand, in my experience, have very consistent necks. I've had 3 Gretsch Nashville Classics and 1 HOF Country Gentleman.

If you know someone with an ES335-55, it's about the same profile & width, even at the nut . . .
