Jean-Francois (Chet1952) had a guitar like that, a Tele style body w/Filter Trons. Sounded good in his hands. The guitar will likely have a bit more sustain but I'm perfectly happy with my old Gent for now

The alder body makes sense to me.
I'd add filtertrons to my Tele in place of the stock pickups, a la Jean-Francois, but I'm concerned the ash body of my Tele will have too much Tele honk and not enough Gretsch sound.
Hopefully Jean-Francois will chime in and say what base wood is under the flame maple cap of his guitar.
