Lollartron pickup

Has anyone here tried this "Lollartron" pickup as a direct replacement for a standard humbucker? Thanks, Bill

why can't these people post specs (like how they meter out) instead of coming up with big descriptive names that really don't tell you much except "buy me"?

It states what the resistance is for both the neck and bridge pickups...with the bridge being slightly hotter than the neck pickup. There is also a 10 minute video where Lollar talks about the pickups, and how he built them. I thought he did a pretty good job.

That being said, I've not played through them.....

It would appear they are made for installation into Gibson type cavities. Paul once said that putting Filter Trons into Gibsons doesn't make the Gibsons sound like Gretsch guitars due to the difference in bocy construciton. Still, it would be and interesting (if expensive) experiment

I don't know how it sounds, but it is the first pickup that I've seen that actually looks like a Gretsch Filtertron that fits in a Gibson. Others have made them, but usually they look like a Gibson Humbucker with an extra row of screws. If anyone has these in a Gibson, please let us know how they sound. Like Norm pointed out though, it's not going to sound exactly like a Gretsch. So, why not sell the Gibson and buy a Gretsch if that's what a person wants their guitar to sound like?

As you know, Chuck, a good guitar is about more than just sound. Comfort, cosmetics, and playability all enter into the equation. Jason Lollar is a top-notch pickup maker and I don't think he would go to the trouble of designing a new pickup if it didn't have the sound he was looking for and, according to what he says in the video, he was trying to closely duplicate the sound of the Filtertrons in a '64 Country Gent. Granted, it is designed as a Gibson humbucker replacement, but perhaps a player likes the looks, comfort, and playability of his Gibson and would be willing to try these pickups to change the tone. I'd like to hear from someone who's tried them too!

Besides a slight difference in the thickness, how is the body construction of a '64 Gretsch CG and a Gibson 335 different?

335's have a block running down it's center. Gretsch does not.

The guy talked a good talk and it's a gamble for someone like him to be making something like that. Getting covers and bobbins made is an investiment he has to hope he can recoup in sales.
