Chet is on YouTube a couple of times playing it but I don't think he had it where he wanted it to be because he never recorded it. Paul said sometimes Chet would play a song in public before he recorded it to see how it sounded to him and the reactions he would get.

Always loved the song. One of the best renditions on strings I ever heard was, believe it or not, Ruth Welcome playing it on her zither.

Tony Mottola has a good version too. Mine has been clanging around in my head for years and I finally have the tools to try to get it played.

That was great! I loved everything about it - tone, bigsby and the video. Sweet CG - let me know when you want to sell it (that's no JOAK). Did you record direct or did you mike an amp?

I bought an M-Audio interface unit from one of the guys on the board here who was getting rid of some equipment. Plug it up, do the recording, unplug it and stick it in a desk drawer. I can be ready to record in under two minutes with the thing. I live in an apartment so it spares the neighbors suffering through re-takes.

I use Audacity as a recording program and have learned all sorts of smoke and mirror tricks. There are some things I wish I had done differently but at this stage of the game (and since I'm not making a commercial CD) I'm probably better off leaving it alone. Guys like Mark Hill and Richard Hudson are more attentive to detail and do a better job than I do.

Maybe someday....

My original core recording of this was uncomfortable to make because my hands had been away from the guitar for so long. But I wanted to do the tune and had an idea of how I wanted it to sound so I did some rather clever utilizations of my Audacity recording program.

In the process of editing it I made some deliberate, some accidental things that enhanced the etherealness of the song. That one I posed on YouTube

This week I spent a couple hours a day fixing bad notes, wrong notes and added a little sustain here and there.

I also changed the ending and got rid of the clichéd Major 7th. I don't think I'll repost on YouTube but you never know...

Could I re-do it from scratch? Certainly. But the education in recording program manipulation was priceless.
Would it come out better? I dunno. Maybe. I may try it again later…but for right now this ain’t too bad…
