Cassy: a tune for CAAS

For all y'all who are doing CAAS this year, here's a little tune just for you and for CAAS itself. Of course I probably should have named it Caasy, but the name Cassy sounds better to me.

Just a little something that came to me while I picked a little bit yesterday, so maybe my creativity is starting to come back (although the melody of the tune is probably similar to a lot of other songs, and might not really be creative in that regard).

Anyway, slower than a speeding snail, unable to leap any buildings, it's Stooperman:

By the way, I hope someone wants to play this tune at CAAS this year, and hope any of you who want to will feel free to modify and improve upon it ... there's lots of room for improvement. My playing suffers from an almost complete lack of picking in the past few months, maybe a few hours total, so don't feel bad if you make me look bad by doing it A LOT better than me.

Nice to see you writing and posting again. Catchy tune and your playing was great. I see you were doing down and up strokes with your thumb. I wouldn't be able to do that.

I'm sure you would do well with the downstroke/upstroke thumb pattern. I highly recommend it, even if you do it only for practice and never really use it, as learning it helps build some "thumb independence." Long ago I learned to do that pattern, and also forced myself to learn a 6-5-4-6 bass pattern (in addition to the normal 5-4-6-4), and a few other patterns (like 6-5-4-5-6, and others which do not come to mind at present), so I could get to the point of doing just about anything with my thumb that I wanted to do. I wanted to be able to do such "weird stuff" without really having to think about it. I think doing stuff like that helps build your creativity, slowly perhaps, but at least some. Just my 2-cent philosophy.

Bruce, I'd be falling short of my "friendship duties" if I didn't comment. I really liked what you played. It doesn't matter if parts of it are familiar or contained in other songs, YOU still pulled it out of the air and pieced it all together, which most people couldn't. The musical "data-base" to draw from is huge for all of us and I consider how we put it all together to be an individual matter and that's part of what defines us. I'm glad that you're back in the creative mode and posting again!
