Lexicon PCM-42 delay/processor

A couple of weeks ago there was a discussion on here about the PCM-42 by Lexicon, and I just came upon an email exchange with Paul Yandell that I had about it, and which I saved on the computer for possible future reference.

I thought anyone having one of these, or perhaps looking for one might appreciate reading what Paul had to say on the subject, so I'm pasting the posts below... This was over six years ago!

Hi Paul:
Thanks for your thoughts about the Lexicon PCM-42, and leaving that X1-X2 button in the out position, that really does make a difference! I'm still learning this machine, but all I can say is, I wish I'd have gotten one 25 years ago, because it's different than any delay I've ever used, and the sound is the closest to Chet's (and your's) I've ever gotten! No matter what the repeat is set to, it retains that crystal clear, mellow sound!
This is probably too much to ask for, but do you have anywhere in your notes or recollections the settings Chet and you used on any particular tunes using the 42? I'm not going to worry about "layering" or multi-tracking or anything like that right now, as that's a little more than I'm ready for!
I think the PCM-42 is a classic example of a company "fixing" something that "ain't" broke, by discontinuing it, and I can see why Chet continued to use it for years!

No not really, Snowbird was aroung 384 I think, when he did something like Sails he would turn around and set it himself it was about 800 I really can't remember, thanks Paul

Waltz for the Lonely was 763 Sunrise was 563, I think Vincent was about the same as WFTL, I always had to put a ground lift on Chet's so not to get 60 cycle hum I don't know why but I did, anyway the 42 is a great delay, thanks Paul
