I tried blue guitar gretsch in a couple of different combinations and the most I get is a blue sychromatic.

"It" will not take his name. What "It"? The blue guitar was a Heritage and is no longer made. He looks to be using a 6122-59 now in standard finish.

If there is a 'negative gretsch page' out there I think if you don't say anything about it (whatever "It" is) it will get buried by layers upon layers of cyber-fill. People's attention spans are too short anyway...

If this was taped recently It's interesting how quickly he regained his former skills. I was under the impression that he had lost it and would be "rebuilding" for some time to come. I'm also very impressed with what he can do considering the shape of his hands.

Most of the hands that I've analyzed (of the "gifted") include slender fingers of various lengths but slender nonetheless.

I am pretty sure this video was shot recently as it was posted on youtube on the 10th and he hasn't been playing the Country Gentleman until recently. I don't think you can judge a guitarist by the length of his fingers or dimensions. Have you ever noticed Richard Smith's playing. His hands are shaped similar to David's in my assessment and man, can he play. One of the best that fingerstyle can offer. I think either you got it natural and work at it to perfection or either you don't have it natural and work at it forever. There are a lot of great talent's in the world of guitar, all with different styles and different things that make them who they are. Just cause it is impossible for us doesn't mean it is difficult for the next man. God made us all different for that reason to keep it all interesting.

The shape of hands and good playing? Think of Muriel Anderson´s small hands and Andres Segovia´s big ones. Good music comes out of both sizes.

I agree with both of you wholeheartedly. I was only surprised, impressed, and amazed. It is encouraging that it's possible.
Lots of practice results in adaptation. I've certainly been adapting for many decades!

But I had the same thoughts regarding shape of hands. Actually, his hands are not only small, but looked edematous to me...couldn't see the vasculature/ bony contours, etc. He certainly doesn't look edematous, so maybe it's just the lighting or something.

Regardless, that was cool and a very fine tone indeed!

I agree that David is getting really good tone from his 59 CG. Does anyone know or can someone with exceptionally good ears tell what effects he's using? The tone is so clear and chimey, and the bass to treble resonse is very balanced and clean. It sounds like a small amount of echo/delay. What about reverb?

I never seem to be able to dial into exactly what I'm looking for. Reverb seems to muddy the tone some, and I'm never sure about delay - setting up the repeats, tempo of the repeats, etc. Sometimes it seems that adding effects increase the bass response and also muddy the tone. I'm using a 59 NC, 1990 Gibson CG, a MM RD50 112, and a new 65 Deluxe Reverb Reissue. For effects I use either the Boss DD3, Boss Digital Delay (RV7 I think), or a Lexicon MX200.

Anyone's experience with this would be greatly appreciated.
