Gretsch Electromatic 5125

I never mean to sound condescending and I apologize if that was the case. I never mean to be insulting. Over at gretschpages the tuning issue comes up a lot and it is usually an anchoring-at-post or nut issue.

When I was young I did use the 'run it through twice' method and wondered why the srings still slipped out of tune sometimes. When I started working for a music store I looked closely at how Gibson guitars were strung in those days and at that time they came with that half hitch (or whatever you call that) shown in the picture. I figured out how to do that when I strung up my guitar and never had another bit of trouble after that.

When someone says they're having trouble like you describe, there is no way anyone can tell how someone else is attaching the strings. So I describe how I do mine and why but, again, I apologize if I came across sounding snooty.

On the plain strings, I just give mine a lot of wraps. I think that it looks pretty that way, and they never slip. After many years, I broke down and purchased a winder--it's a lot faster! LMark

Nope Norm, no problems here and no need to apologize. I really appreciate your and other folks posting info to help me out. Guitar players helping other guitar players. What a great site the Chetboard is where we all can get together and swap info and ideas and hear some good music and see some pretty pictures. There is a wealth of information to be found here. Just not the same without Paul Yandell and some others. I miss their postings. Folks on the Chetboard are so nice and helpful. Thanks again Norm! Good advice is a treasure!! Steve
