I went to the Opry in 1959 and the ET record shop always had a 'midnight show' Saturday on a very cramped stagelike affair. Not a formal stage by a long shot. It was in the back of the record store! Kind of a standing room only kind of thing. There were only two acts when we saw it as I remember. Very informal. No doubt a much slicker operation now

You do know that most record labels once again offer vinyl versions of both new and old catalog at an additional cost ? ? ?

If we all drink the "vinyl is better" Kool-Aid, maybe that will save the recording industry and bring that fruit company to its knees. I look for Apple to come out with a better turntable stylus that never wears out, and is proprietary to iTunes just to stay in business.

I am not anti-vinyl its just that I remember destroying so many needles and records trying to learn how to play. It's so much easier with an mp3.

Well, it all goes back to those who claim that tube equipment sounds 'warmer' than solid state equipment.

It's been proven in many cases that humans regard low to moderate levels of harmonic distortion present in tube equipment to be soothing to the ear, compared to the clean & precise on/off switching of transistors. Yes, there was some aweful sounding solid-state equipment out there years ago, but technology has evolved to where well engineered solid-state equipment in some cases far surpasses tube technology. However, there are some that will never admit it.

As far as analog vinyl is concerned, some claim that vinyl just sounds better to them. This is due to the Record Industry of America (RIAA) equalization curve that was the standard vinyl discs were mastered to, so low-frequency passages didn't throw the stylus out of the record groove when being played. They're so used to the limited dynamic range of analog discs, that the full dynamic range of CDs sound harsh to them.

My audio rack includes a DBX compressor/expander, so I can tailor the dynamic range of both CDs & vinyl discs to my liking for both playback or ripping either CDs or vinal discs to MP3 format for portability convenience. I also have a Phase-coupled Activator that restores low-frequencies lost in early vinly disc recordings. At one time I had a Rek-O-Kut turntable with a high-end 78 cartridge/stylus that I used to rip my dad's big band collection to MP3, where people couldn't get over how good it sounded, hearing string-bass and bass drum that they hadn't heard since they'd last heard it live in the 1940s.

The right audio processing makes all the difference in the world ! ! !

I'll never forget a number of years ago when my first wife left me and I went through such a depression that I donated my entire Atkins/Reed vinyl collection to Goodwill! I'll always regret that. I had been collecting them for nearly 40 years. Now I wish I could rip that entire collection to digital media.
