Doyle Dykes & Guild Guitars

I just got off the phone with Dwayne Friend and he told me that Doyle Dykes was no longer with Taylor guitars. Dwayne said that Doyle has already signed up with another major guitar company, but he couldn't remember which one. I went to Doyle's website and found out that he is now with Guild guitars:

I was curious why Doyle wasn't mentioned in the last two Taylor Wood & Steel publications I received. Matter of fact they don't list the various clinic dates and location of the various the Taylor clinicians as they once did.

Doyle kept up a hectic schedule for Taylor which is not an easy task for a solo artist with a family. I don't know if that was the reason for switching or not. Taylor still has the Doyle Dykes signature models in their catalog.

The Guild website has several videos of Doyle playing their guitars and Dave Pomeroy accompanying him on bass. His Guild clinic schedule is listed as well. Looks like he is going to busy traveling around for Guild pickin' and grinin' to the march of a new drum....or guitar as it were.

Good luck to Doyle as he continues to burn-up the strings.

Guild is making some great guitars these days. The American-made grand concert size fingerstyle models with the 1 3/4" necks are mighty fine. I've had a Guild 12-string on my wish list for exactly several years. I've also got a nice Mark III classic from 1965 that is one of my favorite guitars. (Jerry used a Guild Mark III on his first RCA album.)

It looks to me like Taylor has done away with their artist clinics at music stores. Unless I'm not looking in the right place, I only see "Road Shows" listed on their schedule. Dwayne told me that Taylor had cut Doyle's schedule back. It looks to me like they have done away with their artist schedules completely. I'm sure that had a lot to do with Doyle going with Guild. It sounds like FMIC/Guild is already working closely with Doyle to come up with a signature model and they are scheduling him for a lot of dealer clinics. I hope it works out really good for him, I'm sure this is a tough business. Guild makes some great guitars, and with Doyle on board I'm sure they will come up with some nice new models!
