Chetboard/CAAS

Discussion of history's greatest guitar player.

Chetboard/CAAS

Postby craigdobbins » Thu Apr 19, 2012 4:39 pm

Not to take away from David's heartfelt words, or the repsonses, but we do need to remember that the Chetboard and the CAAS are two different entities. This message board is the forum for the Mister Guitar website, which is independent of the Chet Atkins Appreciation Society.

http://www.chetsociety.com/

Also, while we can certainly invite anyone who is interested in Chet's life and music to attend the CAAS convention, only Mark Pritcher (CAAS president) issues "official" invitations to perform.

Again, this is not in any way a comment on the previous thread.

Thanks,

Craig

Exactly.
He needs to come there as a regular attendee and just make himself available to the people there.
Play in some of the rooms and start slow.

I agree, Eddie. I think that would be a wise approach.

Thanks guys, but that's not my point. I was reminding us all that the Chetboard is not the CAAS forum, it is the Mister Guitar website message board. I think many of us assume they are one and the same, but they're not.

Also, that anyone who loves Chet is welcome to attend the CAAS convention, but performers are invited by Mark.

Anyway, that's all. Now, back to figuring out that Chet lick...

You're exactly right Craig, they are two different things. The title of David's thread kind of threw me for a loop. I was thinking to myself, "I hope he knows they are two separate things."
But, you are right also in the fact that Mark is in charge of performers. Nothing wrong though with someone attending. I really enjoy going just to hang out and talk with people.

That's the best part- meeting new folks and visiting/picking with friends we've made through the years like you, Eddie, and Bill. Julie and I were talking with Guy Van Duser one time, and he said the best part about the convention was seeing his friends. (Or something to that effect- Guy, correct me if you read this.)

P.S. Oh, and the music's not too bad, either.

Yep the friends I have made are the reason I make the trip when I can.

Getting to pick some is great too.

I hope the hard feelings on both sides of this issue can be healed.
Maybe David will decide to join the CAAS and make the trip and take it all
in as a visitor like the rest of us.

Anyone who is a great player there will get attention and if he is great and has
a good attitude who knows.

Craig hope the Reed thing goes well and the HOF thing too.

I think one thing I enjoy the most is sitting down and picking a couple of tunes with you, visiting with Sonny Thomas, and hanging out with Sam and his dad James, also Barry and Beverly Oliver. Eddie and myself had the most fun going to Loveless Cafe with Sam, James, Rick Peckham, and Barry and Beverly. James Kennedy is a trip. He had us in stiches telling jokes. Of course it's always nice to see Marie and Micah. Boy, it's gonna be really sad not seeing Paul sitting beside you this year. I sure do miss him on the chetboard.
