D.P. "Mr. Blue Guitar Meastro"??

Postby PhilHunt » Tue Apr 17, 2012 10:23 pm

Anybody know whatever became of D.P.? He seems to have vanished off the face of the earth. No website anymore, no production of the Blue Heritage Guitar, nada, zip, zilch. All I see is his "I am the greatest thing since Chet Atkins" videos on youtube. Guess we'll never see him at CAAS. Oh well..........

I am surprised he didn't try to be like Chet and give himself a degree.
His would probably be CBGW-(Certified Best Guitarist in The World).
In his opinion of course.

Mine would be if I was awarded one-----CHDG-(Certified Half Decent Guitarist)

Yeah, no doubt about the "copycat" CGP. I just wondered if he is touring or doing anything anymore. Seems like Heritage made 1 signature model.....and that was for "Mr. American Guitar" I've never to this day seen or heard of anyone having a D.P. model. I had to laugh when I watched that press video on youtube. Calling Fingerstyle Guitar...American Guitar. It's a real shame...he ain't a bad picker. But I think his arrogance and perhaps other issues caught up with him.

I spoke to David this past Sunday. He called me and said he is finally getting better. He said his wife and child were killed in an auto accident. He went into a deep depression and never wanted to play guitar again. Apparently he found comfort in Christ and is starting to play again. I think he is truly sorry for the way he presented himself. Some of that came from his manager however the only thing that hasen't changed is his guitar playing. He is currently playing the 1959 Country Gent and loves it. As a side note , when all that was going about him playing with Chet as to before or after the show,Paul called me and I told him we walked into Chets dressing room as David started playing guitar in walked Chet's manager Fred Klewey ( not sure of last name) he asked what we were doing in there? We told him him we heard the airline misplaced Chet's classical and we were offering him mine to use. He was very nice to us and was impressed with David's playing. In walked Chet and the only reason we wern't asked to leave was because of Fred. David started playing Blue Steel Blues and Chet stated playing harmony. We took a few photos of which David cut me out.you can just see my white jacket. Thank you very much David. We were told to come back after the show which we did. There were so many people waiting to see Chet after the show that would never have happened. As a matter of fact I was standing behind a man and his wife who knew Chet very well. His name was John and I heard him say "Chet we wrote you a new song. It's called Sails." When I told Paul how it happened he said he was OK with it. Check prior posts. I don't believe the show did not start on time. It's a shame The Chet Board will not give this guy another chance. we all do dumb things in life , but he is a fine player. The reason I say this as a friend of David's for 25 years he has pi...d me off as much or more than anyone. Stan

I am sorry to hear about his family. Really sorry!!!1

As far as his playing. He is a good player.
He just needed to show a little humility and not
present himself as the greatest thing to happen to the guitar
in the last 25 years. He shot himself in the foot with how he presented himself.

If he really wants to make things right he should just come to the convention
and start by trying to fit in and not take over.

I wish him the best.

That's really tragic to hear about his family. I think what kind of did it for a lot of people including Paul Y. was the way his publicist "Amy" (I think that's her name), blew things way out of proportion. Personally, I think some other folks went way out of control saying things like "he would be shot on site if he showed up at CAAS." That's just wrong. Like I said he's one heck of a picker and I think everyone should bury the hatchet and let the man come to CAAS and pick a few tunes. It's nice to know he's found comfort in Christ.
I was just puzzled what ever happened to him.

Yeah life is too short.

He just needs to put all that stuff behind him. Get a fresh start.
I think people here are pretty forgiving. I have not always showed good behavior here at times.
Most here seem to overlook my lapses into the desire to tweak people from time to time. :D

David if you read this I don't think anyone would shoot you at CAAS. Just come in a low key way and try to make a new rep for yourself.

I actually have a friend nearby in Kalamazoo who was pretty close to D.P. and worked behind the scenes during his shows. He owns his signature model. I too am sad about the loss of his family.
