Modern Day Jerry Reed Classical?

Personally, I think playing a short scale like Jerry's Baldwin is so much easier to play.....especially when it comes to Jerry's stuff. You can grab the notes and chords much easier.....the frets aren't so far apart.
When I switch from the short scale Baldwin to a regular scale classical I can't play as precise.
Sure the rosette soundhole rings don't make a difference, but if you get a H-174 you can always get someone to add a third ring and ...BAM!...you got yourself a Baldwin if you add the Prismatone.

By the way if anyone needs any Baldwin bridges for Sam's Prismatone...I still have a bunch left over.

Your point on the scale is exactly what I'm thinking. I find it eaiser to play the mid 50s Chet stuff on a 6120 as opposed to the longer scale 6122-1959.
I want to work up Jerry Reed songs. I have little to no interest in using a classical guitar for its intended purposes so the shorter scale just sounds like exactly what I'm looking for.

That said, Jerry did use a Guild on his first record right? Didn't those have the standard classical scale length?

Interesting. I was looking at Yamaha 3/4 classicals too. But those may be too small with a 22.4 scale. The Baldwins were 25 right?

the Canadian made le patries have a 25.66 scale length sound good and are real cheap

Couldn't agree more - I picked up my H173 on ebay for the princely sum of $108 and it's one of the best buys I've ever made. I had Sam make me a Prismatone II, picked up some bridges on ebay and had it 801-ified by a luthier in the north of England. It's my favourite guitar now - played as much unplugged as plugged in, and seemingly getting louder and sweeter all the time.

This one looks in really good nick - I know a Baldwin would be nice, but if you can save yourself $1,900, it's a bit of a no brainer

I would definitely aim for a Harmony guitar. I don't think it matters if it's a H-172, H-173, H-174 or a H-177. You could also look for a Gibson C1 or a Guild Mark III. Jerry played these guitars too and you can find them all the time on eBay. Especially the Gibson's are pretty common for being old-timers. It's in a higher price range though, $250 > $500.

But a Harmony would be the cheapest option, if you leave the Prismatone II out of it. I wouldn't pay more then $100 for a H-173 in excellent condition. This model appears almost every week on eBay. A H-174 is a rare bird and you won't find them often. If you do find one, you probably pay around $200 > $300. But just look at AngusH' his Clawdia, isn't that amazing?
