Modern Day Jerry Reed Classical?

What would you all recommend a man looking to play some Jerry style nylon guitar stuff?
It's really difficult to find a shorter scale classical. I've even joined a few classical forums but for the most part the members are little help.

I tried a Cordoba C7 and the neck was too skinny. I next tried a Guild CAC1 but the bridge was lifting off the body so I sent it back.

I'd love an old Baldwin but they are far and few between.

So the question really is, if you had to go on ebay, guitar center, musicians friend etc, today and buy a guitar that best suited to working on Jerry Reed stuff what would you get?

A Harmony H-173 or a Harmony H-174. The H-173 has one ring around the soundhole and is almost like the Baldwin...short scale. The H-174 is almost dead on exactly like the Baldwin 801CP minus one soundhole ring....it has two rings not three. Also, they don't have the Prismatone pickup unless you get one from Sam Kennedy. Gibson classicals from the 60's are also nice to play Reed stuff on...C-0,C-1 especially.

Not sure what you're looking for...a straight acoustic nylon classical 2" nut etc... but I've owned the Gibson Chet Atkins CE and now own the Godin Nylon SA which I totally love.. but I like to play amplified.

Hey Phil thanks for responding.

I'm a little hesitant to go the Baldwin/Harmony route as to I'm not handy and would have to have a luthier do any neck resets or fixing of cracks. That said, you're videos on youtube continue to inspire me to go for a vintage piece.

It all depends if you're looking for the Jerry Reed sound or look of his guitar.

Only a player of JR's skill is going to make ANY guitar sound like he did, so I wouldn't lose any sleep about how many rings are in the soundhole's rosette . . .

Rings around the soundhole's rosette are the least important thing to me. I said in another post I have zero nylon stringed guitars in the house at this moment. I need something and at all the Guitar Centes, Sam Ash, and other stores in my area I'm only coming up with full scale classicals. I'd like to atleast try something the same scale as the Baldwin. At this point it doesn't even have to sound like one. I just need something to start practicing on.

I've been on classical guitar related forums trying to find something but the attitude appears to be somewhat negative towards Guilds and even Martins. I think some guy even refered to them as yankee classicals he wouldn't want to even try. But I'm not looking to play classical music. I think you guys all know that though.

If you're really serious about acquiring your DREAM GUITAR, start playing every classical guitar at your local guitar shop and keep going to other shops 'til you find it ! ! !

You haven't been reading my post closely. I said I went to all the local shops.
I'll also have to respectufully disagree with you. I think the day of no two exactly alike has passed us by. I've probably played 20 Cordobas locally and they all have the same skinny neck. Modern CNC machining has taken a lot of the individuality out of the production line guitar.

The way your previous post read to me was that you were hesitant of Baldwin/Harmony which I know for a fact weren't CNC machined as CNC didn't exist during their production.

I think you're going to have to move up the food chain to find what you're looking for. I had an Ibanez classical guitar that had nice WIDE neck. You can find 'em for about $300.00 and up w/ case . . .

My hesitation on a baldwin/harmony stems from the age of the guitar and having to purchase one sight unseen. Not being a luthier I would have to pay someone to fix cracks, braces, or reset the neck.

Which is why I started this thread. "Modern day Jerry Reed Classicals." What I want is a new issue free shortscale classical, but it's just ot happening.

What do you mean moving up the food chain? Most Cordobas are more than the $300 Ibanez.
I'm actually going to hit some store's 30+ miles out tomorrow(I live in Chicago so that's way out). Maybe I'll find something.
