Back to Standel clips, here's one that shows Jimmy Day still using the amp along with his Wright Custom four neck pedal steel:

Jimmy and the amp are hard to spot here, but you can see the amp at 1.26 behind Floyd Cramer. Jimmy is best seen at 2.21. I'm pretty sure the clip is from -56.

It is said Chet got the amp in 1954 but in 1954 he was enamored with the EchoSonic and happy with his Fender Pro. Jimmie Day decided to downsize his gear just about the time those vids were shot. I have a feeling it was one of those accidents of good timing. Those vids took a couple of weeks to shoot...more than enough time for Chet to try the amp on site. Jimmie wants to downsize and Chet not only likes the sound of the Standel but he can negoitate a trade (plus maybe some money) and get the Standel at a bargain.

Jimmy was still using the amp in 1956 when Ray Price recorded Crazy Arms with Jimmy Day on steel. On those Gannaway color movies there are also clips with Jimmy still using the amp. You have to look real closely, but it's there.
So, based on this evidence the earliest Chet could have acquired the amp would have been 1956 or later. From 1954 to 1957 the Gannaway Company made some color movies that had very GOO feel to them and Chet and Jimmy are both shown using the Standel in some of them so it would appear that Chet acquired it around that time


Everybody walked away happy and we get one more thing to obsess about fifty years later....
