Hi James.. Excellent job of that great Jerry Reed tune.. I think the story behind that tune.. and probably others.. Jerry was playing it for Chet in his office one day. Chet had his recorder on and captured it. Some time later Chet played it for Jerry who asked... "who wrote that!" Anyway, Jerry had forgotten about it.. Now I might have the wrong tune, but I'm pretty much sure that something like this happened... Probably more than once.. LOL. Ron.

Yea Rande I love playing this style I just love the tunes thanks for watching. - Ron thatch is a funny little story and it sounds about right. Chet says on a video of the pair of them playing it that Jerry would write a tune and wouldn't be able to play it a week later because he was so creative! Both legends!!

James, it's a real treat to hear you play "Chet" style. You did a really nice job on the song and I couldn't help but get a big smile just watching the video.

I started to learn to fingerpick after hearing Chet pick with the Carter Sisters on WSM in 1951. I put in a lot of time on the guitar until I figured out what he was doing. I had only WSM available at the time to hear his music and would listen to all of the Opry show until he played. Sometimes it was really late or he may not play at all, but, it was just the possibility that he would be on the show, and country music, that drove me to listen.

Without seeing Chet play until around 1953 or early 1954, on a neighbor's tv, I just guessed from the sound that he was assigning a finger to each of the three bottom strings to pick the melody and the thumb for the bass, so that's what I did. I was really happy when I saw him on tv for the first time and that I had guessed right, for the most part.

I'm 71 now and still play at home for my own enjoyment.It's great to see young guys like you doing such a great job of continuing the music. I wish you great success if you want to make a career of music and I'll tell you that you'll love that sound for life. Best regards, Jim

Thanks , but us young guys have it easy these days we can see Chet and others play close up at the click of a button! It can still be hard to work out the songs though ! - James
