CAAS 2012

Welcome to the new Chetboard!

CAAS 2012

Postby Hans Laduc » Mon Feb 27, 2012 11:08 am

To the members of the Chetboard

I'm Hans Laduc, a Fingerstylke guitarist from The Netherlands (Amsterdam) and a big fan of Chet Atkins, Merle Travis, Tommy Emmanuel. I think my musical roots are in Kentucky.
For the inspiration of my new album, I like to meet & played with fingerstylers who has deep roots in the style of the people I mentioned above.

My Question to the people on this forum: is the CAAS 2012 a good place to meet fingerstyle guitarist and play with them.

Can anyone help me with some names or e-mail adresses.

Hope to hear from you

regards
Hans Laduc

Hans, I've been to 6 of the conventions and, in addition to the concerts and workshops, people are jamming in hotel rooms, the lobbies, the rooms where folks sell their products, and the bar of the Sheraton at all hours of the day and night. You would have a great time. It's not just the attendees jamming, it's the performers, too! I hope you get to go and enjoy the experience. I won't be going this year, but, hopefully, I'll get there again one day.

Just to second what Ray has told you... and you can get all the information about CAAS at:
http://www.chetsociety.com/
This link and others are listed from the main board index of chetboard.
Basically you need to become a member $30 then you will receive a copy of the Mister Guitar Magazine. The current issue is #77 and it has the CAAS registration form in it.. CAAS attracts guitarists from all over the world. The focus is on Chet, but Jerry Reed and Merle Travis are certainly part of that music scene. The convention is held at the Sheraton Music City Hotel... in Nashville. The best way to fully experience the convention is to stay at the Sheraton. They have special room rates for attendees, so if you do book a room there, make sure you mention that you are attending the CAAS convention. Hope you do attend. Take care.

Hi Hans. As to reservations at the Sheraton.. Try this link
http://www.starwoodhotels.com/sheraton/property/overview/index.html?propertyID=198
I phoned the toll free number for reservations, but you might not be able to use that number!! So...
Sheraton Music City Hotel
777 McGavock Pike, Nashville
Tennessee 37214, United States
Phone (615) 885-2200 Fax: (615) 231-1136
Don't just do an online reservation.. you must speak with reservations and ask about the special CAAS rate.
When you talk to reservations make sure you mention the special rate for attendees of CAAS in July. They should be aware of it. If not... phone back until you find someone that knows about it. PM me if you want to know the actual rate.

As to performing. There are lots of open stages going on in a number of different rooms. Most of them just have signup sheets. There are also lots of opportunities to jam with very skilled players. Beyond that you would need to talk with Mark and/or Carol Pritcher who schedule the official events.

[quote="RonBloor"] you can get all the information about CAAS at:
http://www.chetsociety.com/

Mark Pritcher is the President of the C.A.A.S. and Carol is his wife. The link above will get you to the site for the C.A.A.S. and then select contact at the top of that page and that will get you the contact info for Mark.
I hope this helps. I think you will have a great time at the convention.

Hi again Hans.. As Ray mentioned Mark and Carol pretty much run the show. Thank goodness for them :)
I'm not good enough to be thought of as a "performer".. I just love guitar and in particular Chet style. I always bring a guitar and usually play an open stage or two, but my main interest is in listening to all the great performers, especially because they are all there in one place and often they are performing together.
Hope to see you there :)

Hi Hans, You can register for CAAS after you arrive, but there is a small discount if you pre-register for CAAS before June. They will not sell out or anything like that. Lots of folks I know just walk in and register. Registration starts at 10am on the first day, which is July 11 this year :). I hope to see you there.. Have a safe trip.
BTW.. I usually just check my guitar as luggage when I fly, but I've been driving lately to CAAS.
