Vox Combo Amp

I went to the guitar show today and ened up going to guitar center and sam ash while we were there. And i have never played through a vox amp,and i wanted to try the ac15c,the all tube new ones. I have a couple of musicman 112rd's and a vintage sound custom princeton reverb amp. This amp is the biggest sleeper amp i have ever played through! IT has a single 12in speaker and is 15 watts. For 599.00 new if you chet lovers ever get a chance to try one,definetly try it. Its the best chet tone with just a guitar and a cord you will get. And that was with a 5120 korean gretsch,not my cgp with tv jones! The only thing i would add to it is tape delay. Now i will have to definetly have to get one.Iguess the chase for the tones in your head arent even close to over! But this Vox amp is a real winner,and especially for the price for a tube amp nowadays.

Sure is funny that you posted something about the Vox AC15c1. After seeing Brad Paisley in concert, I had a want for an EL84 based amp that could do the tele bridge pickup really well. Well considering all the rave reviews the AC15c1 got and it's pretty low price for an all tube amp - I went ahead an ordered. It came on Thursday of this week. It is a great sounding amp but it sounded kind of boxy to me and small. I am use to playing with D130 type speakers. And I also replaced the Greenback with a Weber Blue Dog speaker (which was an upgrade). I liked the sound of the Weber better. I also had a reverb tank that a lot of the guys upgrade that amp with - so that went in as well. The reverb was a big improvement. I didn't really think the reverb that came with the amp was all that great - it hung around too long to be practical. So when I plugged it in tonight to a 15" D130 type speaker - MAN did it really sound better. My fiancee who can't even tell a difference between a tele and a gretsch preferred the 15" speaker right away! It was very strange. So I think I am going to build it an entirely new cabinet with a 15" speaker in it. Call me crazy - but I just like the 15" speakers better - much larger sound and can get better low end out of them. That was one thing I didn't like about the vox and the gretsch - it just didn't have the right low end response that I am used too. But the Vox and bridge pickup in a tele - whoooooo now that sounds great! Take care!

If any of you are interested these are current versions of the original Tom Jennings / Dick Denny Vox amps made in England, NOT the Japanese Korg Vox amps you're speaking of.

Vox UK went through so many changes of ownership over the years that the Vox name was taken over by Korg.

If you happen upon an older Vox amp, be sure it's a JMI one, and ISN'T a THOMAS ORGAN licensed one as they're CRAP ! ! !

If you're referring to me, I have a 63 JMI Vox AC-30 with Top Boost and I'll be buried with it. The new Korg Vox amps are good, but the Thomas Organ Co. of Sepulveda, CA amps licensed by JMI in the 60s-70s are NOT of the same sound quality or reliability, not that JMI's quality from that same period was exceptionally good.
