Hi Eddie, the first thing I thought after listening to him play was, "wouldn't Paul love this young fellow". I know you thought the same thing. He sure has a great feel for the music, I predict he will really be a "somebody" in the thumbpickin' community if he keeps on learning. He has a special gift for the style, that's for sure!

This place needs to be more warm and open to new people.
We need good young talent sharing their ideas here
I also have the guys at gretschpages on alert.
Turns out, according to the gretscpages guys, the guitar he uses is a common UK import that he has tried to modify and upgrade. He may be Brit.
Maybe he's canadian and lives next door to "chet1952", Jean Francois
I hope he does come here. He is great! He has the one of the best tones
I have heard. I would like to see him come to CAAS.
On another note.
Anyone 'lurking' and seeing a new poster getting beat up about his posting name just because some members may not like his opinions does not make this site very appealing.
Norm,
Nobody got beat up because of their name they used. They got took to task for being insulting. And the person was not new either!
And that is all I have to say about that!

If it was only "heymerle" I might agree with you but over the years I have seen this board be very territorial and rude to some new posters that don't seem to fit in the unwritten scheme of this board. And one of the most common chest thumping things is "we use our real names around here" to new people when that's not 100% true. And So What? My "real name", being Dutch, has thirteen letters in it.
I have read where Chet often said to some people he newly met that he knew were guitar players and he would say "Play something for me" Of course we knew (and he said) it was part of looking for inspiration and also encouraging guitarists to be guitarists.
On one of my encounters with him he showed me how cascading harmonics were done....I wasn't up to the task of understanding it but that's how he was. He treated my freeze-up with kindness.
Chet was a Country Gentleman and we, all to often, do not try to emulate him beside trying to copy his playing and occasionally typing 'doncha know'
And, truth be told, some of heymerles posts after that initial dust-up, have been no better or worse than any other poster.
All I'm saying, all I'm asking, is for people to be more like Chet when someone posts.
Chet said "anyone who plays guitar is a friend of mine."
...doncha know...

Re: Who is this young man?
Welcome James... You are without a doubt a very talented guitarist. As you now doubt can see, we all love the music of Chet Atkins and it would seem that we have that in common. Keep up at your studies and keep up with your music. You sure have a talent for picking the guitar.. Thanks for the videos.
