Hendrik-

That looks like the old white celluloid picks I used back in the 1970's. I still have a couple. They have a stronger sound than the Herco blue, which I also use. Don't know the name or manufacturer, though.

The first time I met Paul Y. in person (around 1980), he gave me one of his thumbpicks, the same kind. I still have it, of course.

Herco use to make their picks out of SILVER nylon back in the 50s & 60s.

That was a long time ago, as probably 98% of all picks are now manfactured in Asia, being hot-stamped with each buyer's logo either at the factory or at the distributor's facility here in the US.

When I was in the retail music biz years ago, you could take several picks from several brands such a Dunlap, EB & Fender, place 'em side by side, and other than the logos you couldn't tell one from the other . . .

When flatpicks can be manufactured 50 for a penny in Asia, compared to 10 here in the US, you can only imagine why so many goods are manufactured abroad. I'm not saying that it's right, I'm saying that's WHY . . .

With that being said, it's no longer an easy task to figure who makes what pick these days.

Craig, you could be right! But that means that I have to be very careful with the thumb pick... I notice the quality is much better, it's more solid. Great that you still have Paul's pick!

Mike, thanks for the info. It makes perfectly sense. A thumb pick if of course only a tool, but I really sense the difference. I play better and more controlled with a pick that really suits me, in sound and wearing.

Thanks everyone, I appreciate it a lot!

Has anyone here tried using Grover Banjo Metal Banjo Thunb & Finger Picks ? ? ?

You can get some really nice sounds with 'em once your get used to using a lighter touch.

I knew a guy who got a Honky-Tonk Piano sound on a Tele with 'em . . .
