I agree on the color issue. I don't understand why Gretsch won't make the Country Gentleman the right color? I know there was various shades of brown throughout the years, but dark wine red? I think they should be brown, but not too dark so the wood grain can be seen at a distance.
I should be getting my new Hall of Fame edition 59 CG soon. I love the orange color!

Maybe someday Gretsch will make the CG's the correct color.

I feel the same way about my 6122-1959. I have not had my hands on an easier playing instrument so I'm still overly pleased with the instrument, but the color...eh. I look at original '59 Gents and wish my reissue looked something like that. Also my 2011 6120-1959 LTV looks much closer to an original 6120 than my late 90s Setzer 6120, but... the flame headstock just looks so wrong. I don't get it. Gretsch has really picked up on making these guitars more like the originals but still missing drastically on some of the finish decisions.

I remember a line of chet atkins guitars,late 80's or 90's,I believe there were only 40 made and listed for 40k dollars,Musicians friend had them at 25k,I have a very real memory of the add,thinking who would pay 25k for one guitar.Dont remember if it was gibson or gretsch,does anyone know anything? Because my pride,ego and mental health may hinge on some well needed facts,surfed the web very hard ,and no result,almost like I dreamt it.

Yes, the guitar was a Gibson Chet Atkins Super 4000.

I agree about the color. I didn't like the brown color that Gibson chose either for their Country Gent. I had a and early Gibson CG that was wine red that looked almost black, I later sold it and bought the orange one which I still have. Gretsch had "The Color" for their Country Gent. No one has ever reproduced that color since. Al
