Chet stereo guitar setup question

I've seen pictures of Chet using his guitar that was wired for stereo. Question ? I never seen any pictures of Chet using two seperate amps when using his CGP guitar. I'm sure when he recorded his stereo guitar he just used Two seperate chanells on the mixing board. I have a 1960 345 Stereo guitar and if you want true stereo you need Two seperate amps. Sure you can plug the stereo cord directly into extra input on a standard amp but you will never get the true stereo seperation. Any takes on how he played his guitar in stereo live? Thanks. Joe

He didn't.

He used the split pickup as a recording tool. It was never in his mind to exploit the effect live. He just wanted a split pickup. "Stereo" was in its infancy (first stereo LP's available in 1958) when that guitar was built. Onstage he played it mono.

This is not an answer to your question as it doesn't involve Chet's stereo setup, however, perhaps will provide some help for getting a good second channel for your second amplifier. Until this week I've never turned both my amplifiers on at the same time. I've always ignored the Boss DD-3 delay pedal 'direct' output which allows separating the reverb/non-reverb channels and the Boss CE has 2 outputs which work well to split the signal. So I started playing with them and found two amplifiers with the pedals splitting the channels can be a great means for an interesting sound. Bottom line, while not the same as splitting at the guitar, you might check your effects pedals and experiment with them for a richer yet clean sound.
