I became a great fan about 1952 as a young teen. I got to go to Nashville in
Sept of '57 when Studio B opened. I walked in and told the receptionist I
wanted to see Chet and she asked if I wanted to audition? I said no I am a
fan from California and she said "just a minute" and about 5 minutes later
"He" walked and shook my hand. He took me down the street to a little diner
and bought me coffee and I talked his ears off and he was very shy. I asked
him where to buy guitar records and he recommended two places and invited me
back to watch a demo session that afternoon. The brother and sister act
trying out was accompanied by Grady Martin, Buddy Harmon and Floyd Cramer and
a few others and I sat in the booth along side Chet and was in heaven. After
they all left he took me in his office and pulled out his D'angelico guitar
that had been redone with a new top and played a few tunes and then he played
his latest record, "Hidden Charm" and I thought I would die. It was one of
the greatest times of my life and I will never forget it..
