The first time I met Chet Atkins was at CAAS in 1994. I sat in a room with
several other people asking Chet questions about everything from guitar playing to how he
kept his fingernails for picking.
I thought about what I could ask without
showing how really dumb I was about playing. So I said to Chet, "Which side
of your family did you get your humor from"? Chet laughed and then started
telling me about the way his Dad could tell a German joke with a German accent, a
French joke with a French voice and etc. He said: " if you think that I have
humor I must have received it from him".
I will never forget the love I saw in
Chet's face when started he talking about his father. Maybe I didn't ask Chet
a dumb question after all. He even signed my old Fender guitar.
