After listening to Chet on an old scratchy radio for years, my Mom amd Dad got tickets to the
Grand Ol' Opry. She said she had an invitation to come back stage and meet Chet Atkins, but, I didn't
believe her. It wasn't until we were taken back stage that I really began to get nervous. I saw him
walking toward me with his guitar around his neck. He looked like he was ready to step out on that
Opry stage. Chet started pulling the guitar strap over his head and at the same time saying, "Here,
pick me a tune." I couldn't have written my name at that moment if my life depended on it, much less
pick a tune. He was a gracious, caring person, that for a few moments made a young 15 year old
guitar hopeful's dream come true and inspired him to go back home and keep pickin'.
