Craig,
I use to do the "poor man's vcr" manuever as well with the tape recorder. Back then in the late 70's and early 80's VCR's were very expensive. Luckily I have an uncle who had a vcr back then and he's a big Chet fan and recorded practically everything Chet appeared on tv from the late 70's to early 90's. He recorded practically every TNN show with Chet from the 80's up to the 90's. Mostly Nashville Now shows.
My mom and dad finally broke down and bought a beta vcr about 1985 and boy I was recording all kinds of stuff on tv. When the beta vcr went kaput...I ended throwing all the tapes away with it. Boy "I wished I hadn't done it my way" as Jerry would say.
Just a note: IF ANYONE HAS ANY SHOWS WITH CHET ON VHS OR BETA TAPES...YOU BETTER TRANSFER THEM TO DVD OR DIGITAL FORMAT RIGHT AWAY BECAUSE OVER TIME THE MAGNETIC TAPE DEGENERATES AND IF YOU PULL IT OUT OF A BOX YEARS LATER AND POP IT IN THE VCR, THE PICTURE WILL BE VERY DARK OR NOT VERY GOOD. It's time consuming because you have to do it in "real time", but it's well worth it in the end.

Bruce,
That's the guitar that the G6120-CGP stereo was modeled after.

Thanks for posting the link to these videos. I didn't think I would ever get to see them after reading so much about the show and seeing the photos from the show. I was a sophomore in high school and was just starting to play guitar and had never heard of Chet at that point. I was listening to Scotty Moore and Cliff Gallup. I didn't see the show, even though I usually watched Dave Garroway and the Today Show most days before I left for school. It's great to see it now and see Chet so relaxed and playing great.

I still have a cassette of Chet on the Dinah Shore show with Burt Reynolds that I recorded off TV.
He played Blue Ocean Echo and Try To Remember with Dinah.
I finally found it on video but that cassette is still special to me.

David,
Thanks for posting those links! Seeing Chet play his Peaver guitar in the middle of that clip you posted makes me wonder again if there is more video footage from the "Stay Tuned" concert. I'm thinking there is more out there somewhere.

Hi Phil and Chuck,
Yes, it took a long time for these to be found, but perserverence pays off I guess!
I do have to confess that I'm a little disappointed, in that the clips from the Garroway Today show don't include the dialogue between Chet and Dave Garroway, in which I distinctly remember (I saw the broadcast live, when I was only 17 years old), Dave introduced Chet and asked him about his "unique" sound, etc. and Chet demonstrated his Echosonic amplifier before actually playing a tune! I'm happy the clips have been found, but it would have been neat if the whole thing had been preserved!
After viewing these, I'm feeling kinda old, as that's 54 years ago folks!
