My dad use to have all of Brother Dave Gardner's LPs and would listen to them all the time. I always wanted to see video footage of him doing his stand up routine. Check this clip out where he mentions Chet. Pretty funny. I believe Chet discovered him and gave him his big break on RCA.

It was so neat to see Brother Dave live. I bought the album Rejoice Dear Hearts when it came out and recently made a CD of it. Shortly after I did that, I found good clean LPs of Kick Thy Ownself and Ain't That Wierd in a thrift store. I had never heard some of the routines on those albums and really enjoyed them. Thanks for posting this - it was a hoot!

I loved Brother Dave.....who went out pushing Dixie.....

There is a guy here in Nashville who was on the movie set with him when he died. He is writing a book about knowing Brother Dave. Everytime I mentioned Dave Gardner to Chet he would break out in the biggest grin...Eddy Arnold told me one night he Chet and Minnie Pearl went down to hear Brother Dave in Nashville...Chet wanted to know what they thought of him before he signed him to RCA...

Garrison Keillor mentioned Brother Dave in Chet's eulogy ...as someone Chet loved...

I really wished someone would put out some of Homer & jethro's stuff. Their live LP's that they made were a hoot. And I believe in one of them they made a reference to Chet who was in the audience.
Now you talk about talent.....Homer & Jethro were IT!! My favorite album of all time that they did was "The Worst of Homer & Jethro"....Chet plays with them on that LP.

Phil, I would like to see and hear some of Homer and Jethro live. They were so funny in their song parodies and any one fortunate enough to see them live got a great performance. I'm sure most of us have experienced Jethro's wit on the Austin City Limits show when he played with Chet. He said that it was a return engagement for him...he last played there in 1958. Later, after a song, he said he had a moving experience for him...during that song, somebody walked IN on him?
