Marcel Dadi's Birthday

Postby Tony Enamel » Tue Aug 20, 2013 8:45 am

Hi everybody,

the most wonderful Marcel Dadi would have been 62 today.

Here's one of his signature tunes, "Saturday Night Shuffle":

I never had the pleasure of meeting him, but he must have been a very charismatic person and great musician.

If you have favourite Marcel clips, please post them here.

And if anybody has a personal story to share, feel free to do so as well.

Best -

Ingo

It was 1991, I believe, my wife and I were at the CAAS convention and there we met Marcel Dadi in the hallway. He graciously signed my Ovation nylon string and then had some fun trying to pick it.( I'm a lefty and so was my guitar.) Earlier my wife Xilda had told me she thought Marcel was a very handsome man, so I asked him for a picture with her. (It still hangs on my wall with my other heroes.) When we got home my then very young daughter was asked often who was in the picture and she would quickly reply "Oh, that's mommy and daddy". Thanks for the post Tony, it brought back many memories of a great musician, comedian, entertainer and down to earth man. Roger

I rode the elevator with him the Sunday morning after the convention ended in 1996. This was only a few days before his plane went down the following Wednesday. He was one of the people whose picture was on the cover of the next Time Magazine.

I always found these private videos from a festival in Wiesloch/Germany very entertaining:

They show a lot of his witty personality.

The videos were taken and uploaded by Marcel's longtime friend and supporter Michael Hohdorf, who also visited the Chet Convention in the 90s.

Enjoy!
