The Chetboard

A little tune I wrote for Richard Smith. Not sure he's even seen it yet (I posted it to his Facebook page), so I don't know if he thinks it sucks or not. Probably not, since he's such a gentleman.

A few performance notes:
-- the strings are over a year old, so sound is pretty flat
-- my picking is its standard below par
-- I have a huge cold and it was almost impossible to get through it without coughing, or trying to every other breath
-- my breath stinks

Fortunately the recording equipment took care of the latter so it's not a problem.

Hope you like it. Not particularly original but hopefully likable.

I heard back from Richard: he likes the tune and plans to learn it (should take him all of 30 seconds).

So far the cold is winning, as it has been for the last 3 weeks. But I'll win. Eventually. Or not. Anywho, thank you very much for the well wishes.

Bruce, I'm always amazed by your compositions. You are so modest about it. If Chet would still be among us, it wouldn't surprise me if he would approach you to record one of your compositions...

I absolutely love your compositions! You have a true understanding of the importance of melody, chord harmony, moving base line, etc. and how to incorporate all that into making great music. I my opinion, this is what is lacking in newer players today. I see so many players simply doing a fingerpicking pattern over a chord change and then call it a composition. No real melody, no counterpoint harmonies, no interesting base lines…just a fingerpicked chord progression with maybe a few riffs thrown in.
Thank you for creating real music that is so pleasant to listen to!
