great thumb

some folks think they play good thumb style but don't quite get that dry separation of thumb from the melody. That is an art unto itself

Norm,,,,,Paul used to say that on a lot of days, he did nothing but practice his thumb! No melody, no nothing else,
just his thumb work, playing the tune over and over that way, thinking about the melody lines in his head as he moved thru the piece. You are so right, its hard to get that complete seperation.
