A few months ago, I was talking to Sonny Thomas, who is a super-picker as well as one of the best guitar 'techs' in the business. Years ago, when Jerry was in his prime, Sonny did a lot of set-up work for him, especially on his electric guitars. Sonny said he couldn't believe how low Jerry liked his action (giving him that poppin', chicken-pickin' sound).
He said if anybody else played some of his guitars, they would completely "fret-out" on them, but that Jerry wanted them that way - - that set-up, combined with Jerry's own personal touch produced "his sound". Sonny can set 'em up to where they almost play themselves - - Paul used to say, "he's the best I ever saw"! When Paul spoke, I listened.

Thanks for the post Gayle! That was some very intersting info about Jerry's set up and when Paul Yandell cgp speaks, you can bet whatever he has to say is accurate enough that it could be etched in stone.
