Just messing around, trying out a new piece of recording equipment. Excuse any sloppiness in playing, since it's been a while.

I used the Presonos AudioBox that Ron Bloor had mentioned in another thread (was on sale for $119 at Musicians' Friend). I like it, because I don't have to fool with setting up the heavy amp. I dislike that I cannot hear the sound it is producing until playback, so I had to reiterate a few times to get it not distort (adjusting the volume on my Godin and on the AudioVox each time). Pretty handy little device. Again, sure beats fooling with the amp, and it was pure plug and play on my Mac ... zero setup required.

Good Job Bruce. The Presonus sounds good. I know that Presonus Audiobox has a mixer that will allow you to monitor the input. Most of those devices have low latency drivers that will allow you to monitor what is being recorded. I found the link below on the presonus webpage. It might help. Anyway that sounds really good.

Roger, that's a very interesting link. I've saved it off to my iPad (using Instapaper) for later reading. Actually, I probably have a pair of headphones floating around the house somewhere, which I could have used to settle in an appropriate audio level a bit earlier. On the other hand, I kinda like getting an amplified sound without having to listen to it as I play ... whenever I plug into an amp, I automatically soften up my right hand touch (and thumbing), and maybe sometimes soften more than I'd really like. I guess there are pluses and minuses to just about everything.

By the way, if I were going to do any serious recording, I would certainly look into that Roland Quad that you mentioned.

Bruce, Nothing wrong with that. The only reason you would need to monitor your recording input would be to use effects or amp modelers in your recording software. I am actually starting to like some of the software amps like TH2. If you ever need to monitor the input, it should be possible with the presonus.

Good point Roger. I really should install the PreSonos software. I had in mind that any effects that I might ever want to accomplish would be through GarageBand, but, if I do want to add effects sometime, I really should experiment a bit. The only thing I have used so far for my videos is just the QuickTime Pro video software, although I did try combining that with GarageBand one time (didn't work out well).

Thanks Gary. No, I haven't tried it with my Gretsch yet. I'm really, really moody about when I play it. I would imagine it sounds good with it, though, even though I think I would prefer to play the CG amplified, because that helps enforce the soft touch that is really appropriate for the CG. That's just my thinking, though, which has been known to be not so good at times.
