First off I have to thank my new buddy I met at CAAS Mike Johnson. Mike is a wealth of knowledge and a student of Terry Wedding. He use to live right above Lenny Breau and told me some interesting stories about Lenny. He knew him really well. I think I'm going to take a break from the Chet and Jerry stuff for awhile and concentrate on the theory stuff....I wanna KNOW what I'm playing and exactly what I'm doing and why I'm doing it.
Mike taught me Lenny's theory of 1 4 7 3 6 2 5 1. Kinda hard to explain and learn but I'm gonna try to learn this.
Anyway...Mike gave me a dvd chocked full of some new Reed clips that I didn't have.....here's one of them. I'll be uploading more this week............

Oh my goodness... that was a-ma-zing! So soulful, more laid back than on "Nashville Underground". He must stepped out of Del Reeves' "Country Carnival Show". He was wearing the same clothing and playing the same guitar.
Good luck with the theory Phil. I don't doubt you will nail it

Thanks for the links Phil. Any video of Jerry is a must see.
I undertsand that Lenny's concept that you mentioned is too complex to explain on the baord but if you don't mind me asking, is 4 7 3 6 2 5 1 a chord progression?

A little off-topic Phil, but I just spotted this video of you singing "Folsom Prison Blues" at C.A.A.S. with Audie (great licks!) and Washtub Jerry. Lookd like Eddie and Mark were enjoying it!

Can having a math background be a curse? Maybe so. I'll illustrate. Regarding the "1 4 7 3 6 2 5 1", I couldn't help but notice that each new number was 3 steps beyond the previous one if your cycle ends in 7. For instance, look at going from 6 to 2. It's 6 and then 7 1 2. Or going from 5 to 1, it's 5 and then 6 7 1. So each new number is 3 steps beyond the previous one, when dealing with a cycle of 7 steps. Now the musical question is "so what?"......lol.
Phil, I really appreciate all of this footage of Jerry. I remember how for decades how much I had wished there were more video footage of Jerry and it didn't seem to be available anywhere. Even now, most of what is posted is t.v. footage that people were kind enough to upload. There seemed to be a lot more actual concert footage of Chet than there was of Jerry. I need to grab all YouTube footage of Jerry and compile it onto a DVD. Thanks!

Thanks for posting the videos, Phil. Paul Yandell always said Jerry Reed was a one of a kind. When he gets that claw thing going, you just can't be still. You and Eddie did a fantastic job. It was great to see you both.
