A Tribute to Chet and my Dad

It's getting close to the 11th anniversary of Chet's passing (this Saturday, 6/30/2012), and I thought I'd repost a tribute to Chet that I wrote and recorded a couple of years ago. Chet's passing was on my last wedding anniversary (my wife died two months after our anniversary).

The tune is also dedicated to my Dad, George Keener. Dad and Chet get equal credit for inspiring me to play. Without Dad's love of (and ability to play) Chet and Merle style, and without all the albums Chet recorded that I tried to copy, I would never have picked up the guitar. Jerry Reed later influenced me as did Paul Yandell and many others, but Chet and Dad are my true musical fathers, so to speak.

Here's the tune, which I hope you enjoy.

Hey Bruce!

That was nice. You demonstrated a lot of control. At first I was expecting your Godin. I've been missing you here.
Will you be making the trip from Marietta to Nashville in a couple of weeks?

Thanks for the kind words, guys.

Rande, I'll not be at CAAS this year, but since I've never been to CAAS, at least nobody will miss me :) I hope those who go have a great time, though. I expect it will be difficult with Paul not being there.

All my best, and thank you again.

Bruce

Bruce, I'll miss seeing you again. If I weren't so pressed for time and having to return for classes I'd drive the extra distance from Nashville down to Marietta.

Thanks Rande. I hope you guys have a great time, and I'm sure you will. I have some family commitments, as well as a couple of meetings with old friends. Even if my calendar were clear, it would still be way too much walking for me. I just don't do conventions of any kind any more. That part of my life is over.

Thanks.
