Chet and Nato playing "Blue Angel"

Postby Hendrik » Tue Jan 15, 2013 9:57 am

Here is a very rare video of Chet and Nato playing Blue Angel together. Nato plays rhythm on, whats seems to be, a very detuned guitar. When Chet is playing that guitar later one, it also sounds detuned, so I believe Nato isn't playing bad guitar...

I think I remember that video being on the late Dr. Jim Coleman's website. Looks like that might beThom Bresh standing by the door holding a beer.

That's a really nice video.

I think it's the first video I've ever seen of Chet just being normal and jaming with other folk. I guess there are not many videos out there of chet like that?

Chet is so relaxed and has such confidence playing 'Blue Angel' that he occasionally appears to be paying more attention to others in the room than his playing. The blonde lady with glasses, briefly shown behind Nato, looks like Chet's wife Leona.

I’ve always found it strangely comforting to see Chet acting the same way we all do at an informal jam session (“how’d you do that?”… “what fingering are you using?”… “I don’t play it that way”…).
Thanks for posting that, Hendrik!

That´s not Chet´s favourite DelVeccio, the one we discussed here the other day. It doesn´t seem to have the soundholes with an inserted V and the extended fretboard on the treble side. Thus it´s yet another one to investigate!

Vidar,
That looks like Chet's dark colored Paul McGill. He also had a light colored one.

Chuck, you´re probably correct. I haven´t seen that one before, only the lighter one on pages 130-31 in MMAG. That one looks quite different though.

I don't remember which issue it was in, but there was a photo of this guitar in Vintage Guitar Magazine. It seems like I saw it pictured somewhere else too. Perhaps it was on Paul McGill's website.
