Two of Chet's favorites. Not about Chet but a fascinating interview of Franklin's steel techniques and Vince's guitars and picking style. Vince and Paul have a new record out called "Bakersfield" with six Buck Owens song and six Merle Haggard. Really good stuff.

Paul Franklin toured for years with Jerry Reed and Chet referred him to Mark Knoffler. Paul toured for two years with Dire Straits.

Paul and Vince play in the Time Jumpers Band on Monday nights at Third and Lindsley here in Nashville. Pure western swing...Bob Wills and Spade Cooley stuff.

I love steel guitar but as I listen to Paul talk about the tunings....I know why I never tried to play it. Vince almost went to sleep as Paul was explaining steel guitar theory and how his style evolved.

I recommend you set aside about 30 minutes to watch this. I did and enjoyed it. I've played with many steel players over the years and I learned more about their instruments watching this than I did playing in the same band with a steel. I've always been a fan of the Bakersfield sound of Merle Haggard and Buck Owens and I'm anxious to hear Paul and Vince's new CD "Bakersfield".
