In the Sweet - Vintage Riviera

I've seen a few shots of Chet playing an Epiphone but don't know the story about that.
Today, I uploaded "In the Sweet By and By" with an Epi Riviera that I bought new back in 1963. Back then Gibson made Epiphones at the Kalamazoo factory and those were some fine guitars. I liked the Riviera model and it's been a workhorse for a lot of years, still all original except for the Bigsby tailpiece and no "E" on the pickguard. I understand they've also had an "elite" line for some years, which I haven't played any of, but I would guess them to be quality guitars. I wonder how they would compare with say a Gretsch 5120.

Well, Goll-Lee that was "Art-tistic"!!! That guitar sure sounded nice!! And I really like your pickin'!! I was wondering about your set-up. What kind of mixer / interface did you use. Did you go direct in or mic an amp. If you used an amp what was it and what was the microphone? Sorry for all the questions, but that was one of the best, cleanest, and most enjoyable music videos I've seen in a long time. You are doing something right!!! Keep up the good work and put another one out soon!!! Steve

I like that “Art-tistic” term and appreciate your encouraging remarks. My set up is simple, I think. I go direct into a Roland mixer. It’s an older model, VS840, actually a recording device that worked with zip disks but what I use is the mixer part of it and record through that into audio jacks of a DVD deck along with the video line. The Roland thing has two channels of audio outputs at once. So I run one to the DVD deck and the other into desktop speakers to hear what I’m playing. The sound I hear doesn’t get recorded but the direct sound into the DVD deck does. I might not be saying that as clearly as I might but I’m not using an amp or microphone. Glad you like the sound I’m getting.
