I ran across an "old fashioned" rendition/version/arrangement of a tried and true old tune, and one that proves you don't have to have a lot of electronic effects, drums/rhythm tracks, delay/reverb/etc. if the "feeling" is in your head! And even when the sound quality isn't the best (as in this clip), it took me back many years, and to the time when I couldn't get enough of this kinda pickin'! It's the moving bass line, dont'cha know?...And, it's what fingerstyle/thumbstyle guitar is all about, and what really differentiates it from "other" styles of guitar, rock, blues, etc. Listening to John Standefer playng this old tune, made me remember back to nearly 60 years ago, and when I first heard a man named Merle Travis play this style!

David, you sure can find 'em and John Standefer can play for sure! I agree with you 100% - I wouldn't trade this performance for one with all the bells and whistles in the world!
Thanks again for a great post.

Boy, it doesn't get much better than that! He plays in such a great "groove", reminds me a lot of something O'Dell Martin might have played. John has that feel and touch that is almost something that can't be taught,,you either have it or you don't. A lot of guys can play the notes but don't have the feeling to put it all together. John is one fine guitar player, that's for sure!

I uploaded that one. Got John's lesson of this tune... it was a 'must learn' ! Still don't have it down yet, but what a great arrangement and performance by Mr. Standefer eh !? Just the man and his guitar. No frills, just pure soul.
Check out another great arrangement by John "I'll See You In My Dreams" (on the to learn list also)
