Here's a pretty old tune, sung by a pretty young lady, Lea Salonga, of the Philippines.

It has some beautiful back-up guitar chording, (Cesar Aguas, of the Philippines) and very reminisent of Tony Mattola's style! Nothing fast and furious, no shredding for sure...just pretty music!

I'm thinking of that old expression, "they don't write 'em like that anymore!"

David, you definitely have good taste in music! Even though my focus as an instrumentalist is the guitar, I always find myself listening to other forms and deliveries of nice music. That's where my inspiration and ideas come from for my arrangements. I seem to be doing a lot more performing accompanying vocalists in recent years, than I do with guitar solos, although a few are always worked in. Many of the accompaniments are in the style of what you shared with us here. I love rich harmonies and being able to do things like I heard here. The big difference with me is that I would still play more of a fingerstyle background rather than the "sweeping flat pick sound" that I heard here.

There is a veterinarian fried of mine who has a very nice singing voice and we perform quite a bit and are opening for Ronny McDowell, who was a recording star in the 80's. I mention this because we enjoy songs with rich harmony, even if the audience is "less sophisticated". We always meet people who like this sort of thing.

You never know what to expect. Remember the night I met you when I was backing up Jan Rooney? After the show you asked me if I could play "The Claw". Neither you nor I would have ever expected that to come up!

I've always preferred backing up a ballad singer over just about any other musical expression...

I worked with a woman who had a lovely voice like that. Had high hopes of actally doing something musically....

Unfortunately things didn't pan out...

Norm, just before I moved from California to Michigan I had put in about 6 months practicing with a woman singing these types of songs. We built up a repertoire of over 100 songs and were going to do the restaurant circuit. She got scared and backed out and everything fell through. She was good. I had also built in a lot of solo instrumentals.

Looking forward to hearing you pick. I'll be tied up much of Thursday (previous commitment), but free after that. I'll try to hook up some of my equipment (which has been sitting idle) so you've got something to play! It'll be pretty much a "one-way" concert, as my guitars have forgotten me, don'tcha know?
