Saw this on Gruhn's Archtop page....wow, it's a stunner.

AR4113 Gibson Chet Atkins Super 4000 (More photos...) , 2001, M with cerficicate and papers, pickguard signed by Chet Atkins, shaded finish, OHC, original list price $40,000......$16500

Can anyone provide information about this model? I've never seen photos of Chet playing it. How many were made? Is it considered a desirable / quality instrument? Anyone on the Chetboard ever played one? Wondering if having only a neck pick up and no bridge pickup is a disadvantage. Thanks for any info.

If you had the 4000 and the Super 400 side by side, you would see a lot of difference. The color is different and the 4000 has wider binding. The pick guard is bigger with no screws in the top. Anyway, they were going to make twenty five of them but I don't know if that is cast in concrete. As for price, Gibson charges what ever the market will bear. A week after it was brought out the price of the carved top guitars doubled

So I think will be mostly doctors and lawyers and people who buy those kind of guitars for investments rather than pickers. Maybe if Chet had got to play it more on TV the 4000 would have been a big seller. I believe he only played it twice on TV before he got sick. I think the 4000 is the best looking guitar Gibson makes..."

if you are interested in the Super 4000 you can make me an offer, it is in mint condition. I have problems with my right shoulder and the guitar is too big for me.

Michael, I'd love to, but wife was not to happy when I ran the idea past her. I need to sell a few more guitars first.
