Robert,
It doesn't have the Prismatone pickup in it.
I can give you the fellow's contact info.

Re: Baldwin 801CP
Robert,
There's a nice Harmony H-173 for sale on eBay for $99 the seller has
it listed as a F-65.
It's as close to a Baldwin 801CP as you're gonna get.

Re: Baldwin 801CP
Robert - I'm not going to re-open the debate over what an 801CP is 'worth', and in any case it's an entirely subjective matter. But I've pretty much given up on finding one that I can afford, which is another matter entirely.
Phil's spot on - the H-173 is as near as makes no odds the same guitar, and if you can find one as nice as this one looks for $99, I'd snap it up. I picked up mine for $108 on ebay, ordered a Prismatone II from Sam and it had it fitted by a luthier who really knew his stuff.
In short, it's a great little guitar with a lovely low action that didn't cost the earth and that I play every day. (I've posted some pics of it on another thread elsewhere on the board - might even be earlier in this one.)
By the way, I think the F-65 stamp means it was built in the Fall of 1965 - mine has S-67, so I'm guessing it hails from the Spring/Summer of 1967.
Good luck with your hunt - and I hope you enjoy whatever you find.

Hi Phil,
Can I have the contact info for the H174? Also, can you give me a contact number for Sam Kennedy the Prismatone pickup manufacturer?
Thanks,
Robert

Phil,
I just bought this: http://kansascity.craigslist.org/msg/2996532592.html.
Also, Sam got back to me and due to his schedule, I will have to wait until the fall for a Prismatone II. That is alright since it will be worth the wait.

Anybody have a Prismatone or Prismatone ii I can beg, borrow or steal. I just bought a Clawmaster but without the pickup from Craig and I love it. Sam Kennedy said he is not building until the fall.

Hi,
I need to build a power supply for a Baldwin 801cp. Could someone post one or tell me where to find one?
Thank you.

Re: Baldwin 801CP
Robert,
If I'm not mistaken when you get a pickup from Sam you also get a preamp. I have a Prismatone wired up in my Yamaha classical to the original preamp on the guitar and it sounds fine. I don't know the configuration of the old preamp jack since it was covered in brown epoxy goop. There is a difference in sound if you run it off just 9 volts as compared to 22.5 volts. My Baldwin has more punch and bass and the Yamaha seems like something is slightly missing but it still sounds great. I'm sure just a standard 9 volt preamp for a classical guitar would work with it.
Something like this might work but you'd have to wire in the pickup some kind of way to it.

Re: Baldwin 801CP
Hmmm... so Phil, you are saying that a Prismatone could be installed and used with an existing pre-amp like the one in my Takamine classical?
Just thinking here...

Robert - Here is a schematic for the Baldwin power supply. If you're handy with electronics (I'm not..),they can be built pretty easily. This design uses three regular 9-volt batteries with a regulator to reduce power to the required 22.5 volts of the Baldwin preamp:
